An early trio session by Lester Young – recorded with Buddy Rich on drums! The record also features an obscure pianist named "Aye Guy" – Nat King Cole under another name! Collecting the complete recordings from Decca made between and , this is an essential addition to any jazz lover's collection. Count Basie was one of the early giants of the big band era, bringing together some of the best players and devising new ways of arranging both the music and the players to provide some classic tunes which were fresh and novel at the time, and remain fresh today/5(28).

There’s a tremendous blues shouting performance by Jimmy Rushing on the classic “Sent For You Yesterday” which is a number I just can’t get out of my head at present. big band, Chu Berry, Count Basie, Herschel Evans, jazz, Jimmy Rushing, Lester Young, swing. 9 comments: ripped from vinyl. Some cuts are a bit on the rough side.
